About 365 Masquerades

ONCE A DAY, EVERY DAY OF 2014, I MASQUERADED AND POSTED A PICTURE OF THE CREATION ONLINE.

1 person, 365 days, 365 different charachters.

As long as I can remember I’ve been drawn to masquerading, the theatre, performativity, dressing up (or down), playing with my own visual identity, creating costumes, daring myself to be “someone else” and to all kinds of different historical eras of fashion.

Taking self-portraits wearing all kinds of stuff and performing differents roles and alter-egos for a long time, I have made all of these looks public on personal web pages since 1997 really (eskapi.com being the latest) and in recent years on Instagram as “DadaWunderSociety“.

In december 2013, I suddenly decided I should make a bigger project out of this, and I came up with “365 Masquerades – Every day is a masquerade”, a project that took place online on Instagram, Facebook and on www.365masquerades.com

Every day 2014 I dressed up & down/transformed myself/performed a role/created a look/became a stereotype/looked like something.

I’m did it mainly to challenge myself and to be creative, every day, on my one-year journey of visual metamorphosis.

After making the 365 masquerades, a new year began. The project took new steps resulting in an art exhibition and, one more live performance and, last but not least – The 365 Masquerades book, released in May 2015 and functioning as the big summary of everything about this huge project.
