Day 294

Jagatjit Singh Bahadur, Maharaja of Kapurthala (1872-1949).

I’ve been reading about him and also about his wife Anita Delgado who was a Spanish flamenco dancer and who wrote a book about the traveling she did with her husband in Europe and India.

The Maharaja’s life story is quite interesting considering he lived during the years that India was a part of the British Empire and also during two world wars.

(A fun anecdote I found on Wikipedia was this one: “Probably as a reminiscence of his marriage with Anita Delgado, Don Pimpón, a character in the Spanish version of Sesame Street, claimed to have travelled the world extensively with “his friend the Maharaja of Kapurthala”, namely the guy of today’s 365 Masquerades.)

Thank you so much to D for lending me the fantastic Indian clothing, shoes and headpiece.

Today’s inspirational picture of the “original”:

And oh, his full name and style was Major General His Highness Farzand-i-Dilband Rasikhal Iqtidadi Daulati Inglishia, Raja-i-Rajagan, Maharaja Sir Jagatjit Singh Bahadur, Maharaja of Kapurthala.

Can you beat that? 🙂
